International working meeting regarding the preparation of projects for the development of the mountain area in the Center Region

Within the event “International working meeting regarding the preparation of projects for the development of the mountain area in the Center Region”, organized during the period 9-10 March, in Brașov, representatives of the Podkarpackie Region of Poland and representatives of the Central Region of Romania, together with representatives of the Government of Romania and the Government of Poland, discussed the possibilities of stepping up actions at national and regional level in all the Carpathian states, in order to create and support appropriate instruments for the sustainable development of the Carpathian Region.

 More than 40 romanian and foreign experts analyzed the problems of the communities in the area of Carpathian Mountains , investment needs, opportunities and challenges sustainable development of the mountain area in line with the Union's objectives European, as well as with the need to recover quickly from the gaps development compared to the other European regions.

The works were led by Władysław Ortyl, the marshal of the Polish Podkarpackie Region (Subcarpatia) and President of the Working Group for the Carpathian Mountains within the European Committee of Regions, with the management of the Brasov County Council, Honorary Consul of the Polish Republic in Brasov, Mr. Janusz Szalinski,  and members of the Development Council Regional Center, together with the General Manager of the ADR Center.

Participants at the meeting of joint working which were represented all districts in the Central Region, have come to the conclusion that for the sustainable development of the Carpathian Mountains area a strategic vision and better coordination of the different sectoral policies and programs or at regional level is needed.. There was also talk of creating a political-institutional framework that would respond to the multiple needs of this area, through the adoption by the European Union of a Strategy for the Carpathian Macro-Region, provided with an adequate financial component, such as the Strategy for the Alpine Region.

Also, the president of the Brasov County Council, Adrian-Ioan Veștea, and the marshal of the Polish Podkarpackie Region, Władysław Ortyl, signed a joint Appeal of the local public authorities of the two regions, addressed at national and European level, meaning that all the responsible factors intensify their efforts to obtain a common position of the Carpathian states regarding the creation of the institutional framework for the sustainable development of the Carpathian Mountains area. In the area of ​​the Carpathian Mountains , spread over the territory of seven states of Central and Eastern Europe and which sum up an area of 190.000 km², there are about 68 million people, for whom the authorities intend to carry out joint projects of sustainable development , which in the future can be financed by the European Union.

On this occasion, at the Consulate of the Polish Republic in Brasov, we had the honor and pleasure to receive the visit of the polish delegation present in Brasov during these 2 days. From the polish delegation led by Mr.Władysław Ortyl - the marshal of the polish Podkarpackie Region (Subcarpatia) and the chairman of the Interregional Working Group for the Carpathian Mountains within the European Committee of the Regions, have participated Renata Calak – Deputy Director Strategy Department within the Ministry of Regional Funds and Policy of Poland, Paweł Wais – Expert in the opinion on the macro-regional strategy for the Carpathian region (CoR), the head of the regional development department, Marshal's Office in the Podkarpackie Region, Marcin Marynowski – Expert in romanian history and culture, National Museum of the Przemyśl Country and Justyna Róg – Secretary of the Carpathian interregional group (CoR), Representation of the Podkarpackie Region in Brussels.
