Commemoration of the polish altar in Timisul de Sus

On Wednesday, 30 th of July, there was a ceremony to commemorate the polish altar from Timișul de Sus, attended by several representatives of Poland in Romania - representatives of the Polish Consulate in Brasov, Representatives of the Polish Consulate and Embassy in Bucharest but also members of the Polish Union in Bucharest.

At the location of this altar, A wreath was laid by the consul of Poland in Bucharest-Artur Tarasewicz and the consul of Poland from Brașov-Janusz Szalski, followed by a prayer officiated by polish priest Henryk Urban.

The Holy Liturgy in polish took place at the SF Catholic Church. Teresa from Timișul de Sus with the help of the nuns that are living there permanently and maintain that wonderful place.

During World War II, approximate 600 of young poles arrived, in the fall of the year 1939, In Timișul de Sus in Brasov County. During their stay here, the refugees built a catholic shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary. After staying for several months in Timișul de Sus, young polish refugees enlisted in allied troops against the Hitler or went to the West or Turkey. Hearing about the construction of this altar built by the refugees from Timiș Colonel Beck in exile in Brasov made time to leave the ARO apartments to visit the camp of his nationals and pray to this small altar..

The monument is located on a hill above the YMCA camp in Timişul de Sus, camp which was founded in 1919, at the initiative of Queen Mary. The cultural activities organized during the interwar period by YMCA Romania were numerous: room music concerts, Concerts at the Romanian Athenaeum, Creation camps, symposiums and cenacles.

Renovation and maintenance, they are constantly taking place at this altar with the help and common support between the Poland Consulate in Brasov and the representatives of the Polish military contingents that are within the Infantry Battalion "Neagoe Basarab from Craiova.
