Romania is in a glorious moment of history, at a time when his hopes reborn in another symbolic December, the one from 1989, begin to come true. On 104 years since the historical act of the Romanians, the 1 December 1918, the truth emerges clearly, that for Romania, as for other countries, the fruition of national ideologies and values is an organic component of European solidarity and its institutional improvement.
The geopolitical implications of the Baltic and Pontic space, where great empires from the west and east clashed over the centuries, they created the premises of a relatively common destiny for Romania and Poland. Relations between the two countries have had their ups and downs, but they acquired a new dynamic after the accession of both countries to the Euro-Atlantic structures. On 7 October 2009, during the visit of President Lech Kaczyński to Bucharest, the Declaration on the Polish-Romanian Strategic Partnership was signed, by which both parties committed to actively support the enlargement process of the European Union, to promote the vision of a strong North Atlantic Alliance and to make efforts to ensure energy security.
"The alliance of hearts with the founder of modern Poland - Jozef Pilsudski – is represented, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, of one people with two flags". These big words can be found in all the actions undertaken by the two countries. Mutual solidarity manifests itself even more strong, after both countries experienced the terrible communist regime.
At the moment, Polish-Romanian relations are based on three main pillars: cooperation within the European Union, security cooperation within NATO, as well as the partnership with the United States.
Warsaw and Bucharest unanimously support an equal European partnership, in the spirit of "one-speed Europe". In terms of security, the location of Poland and Romania on NATO's eastern flank means that both countries perceive regional and global challenges and threats similarly.
Today, when we celebrate the National Day of Romania together, the feeling that must animate us is that of responsibility towards the historical destiny of the Romanian people, who founded their destinies on these blessed lands, where history has placed other ethnicities alongside. Creating the future is done together, in the spirit of understanding, of tolerance and friendship, building a mature democracy and sustainable prosperity, in the inevitable perspective of becoming European.
On the occasion of Romania's National Day, I wish the Romanian people the warmest congratulations and best wishes for health, wellness, prosperity and success! Wonderful winter holidays!, Romania! Janusz SZALINSKI
