Tuesday, 17 th of May 2022, TRIBUTE TO A HERO, represented by Mr.. Janusz SZALINSKI – Honorary consul, organized the inauguration ceremony of the forest altar located in Timișu-de -Sus, Brașov county.
The altar was built in 1940 of Polish Army soldiers who have taken refuge in Romania since the year 1939.
In the fall 1999 The Christian Youth Association of Romania became the owner of the camp it had owned before 1944 (ACT - YMCA founded in 1919 at the initiative of Queen Maria of Romania). During repair work, an altar and a stepped pavement were discovered in the forest. The buttresses were adorned with shards of white plates, and on one of them was an inscription with red shards: MAY 1940. That's how it was in this camp, between 1939 and 1940 were hosted 600 of Poles who had built a Catholic altar in the deciduous forest
In the renovation of this monument, The efforts of Consul Janusz Szaliński were important. Some of the works were carried out by soldiers stationed in Romania within the Polish Military Contingent PKW Craiova, starting with the 6th rotations and continuing with the current one – a 10-a, and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Bucharest contributing financially to the realization of the project.
The ceremony was attended by representative companies of the Polish and Romanian Armies, also, The brass orchestra of the Romanian Air Force Academy in Brașov.
Therewith, Honorary Consul Janusz Szaliński was awarded the Silver Medal of the Polish Army for outstanding contributions to popularizing the history and traditions of the Polish Army internationally.
The event was attended by E.S.. d-him Maciej Lang, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Romania , Consul of Poland in Bucharest – Dl Jaroslaw Skirpan etc. They were present , also: Honorary Consul of the French Republic in Brașov – Ion Ciolacu, Vice President of the Brașov County Council – Zoltan Szenner, Brașov Garrison Commander "Sarmisegetusa", – Col. Marian Dragomir, Commander of the Air Force Academy "Henri Coanda" Brasov, Commander Conf. univ. dr. Marius Șerbeszki.
In his speech, Consul Janusz Szalinski honored and honored the Polish soldiers – the heroes of 1940, condemned the war, its consequences and referred to the repetition of history by the invasion of Ukraine.
The ceremony ended with a religious service, followed by the military honors of the two armies.
