Located at only 20 km from Brașov, on the road to Sighisoara, on the river Olt, Feldioara Fortress – Marienburg, it is a class A national historical monument, being among the most important medieval saxon fortifications in Southern Transylvania.
With a strategic position, with visibility over a vast land, and natural advantages have made this place attractive since prehistoric times. The plateau on which the citadel rises revealed during the archaeological research vestiges of habitation from the most ancient times - neolithic, the bronze age, the dacian and roman periods, but especially the Middle Ages.
Its restoration, carried out between 2013-2017, saved the remains of the walls that had survived the last hundreds of years of abandonment and restored it to its 17th century appearance.
This year, on 2 and 3 September in Feldioara, took place, a 11th edition, of the "Teutonic Knights return to Feldioara Citadel" Festival and the Official celebration of the launch of the Teutonic Knights Route as a Cultural Tourist Route developed on a regional level.
At the event, along with important local and foreign officials, honored the invitation received, Mr. Honorary Consul of Poland in Brasov, Janusz Szalinski where he gave a speech related to the event itself but also to a possible future twinning between the Marienburg Fortress from Brașov County and the Malbork Castle in Poland, these having a common teutonic history.
Malbork Castle is located at 60 the kilometers south of Gdansk, on the banks of the river Nogat, being the largest medieval castle in Europe and, also, the largest brick construction in the world.
Built by the Order of the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century, the red fortress has seen successive transformations, as the power of the Order grew. It was strengthened and expanded, to accommodate as many white-robed knights as possible, with the distinctive sign: the black cross.
Representative example of medieval military construction, Malbork Castle was destroyed during World War II. Reconstructed later, is registered from 1997 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
